Thoughts

To the Members of the 40th Reunion Committee of the U.S.GHS class of '61:

I am ever grateful to the hours of personal time that you gave to the reunion.

To stage it at Grant with all the extra effort required was so very splendid. To walk about in one's high school open just to one who happens to be suddenly 58 was an exquisite treat. Few experience that pleasure which you brought us.

I marveled at how-user friendly the whole affair was from the early notice that the reunion was in the works to the registration form itself. The reunion booklet is a treasure. I was charmed by the hominess of the assembly and the effort you went to to invite our teachers. (The latter allowed me to express to Mr. Ouchi words I have ached to say for years. Fear not. They were good.) Your recognition of classmates who have died was especially precious to me, as one of my dearest friends, Pat Farr, is in those numbers. I delighted in the memorabilia that some of you had obviously brought that night. And then the warm hospitality that each of you spread that night said importantly to all, "Yes, you belong here. This was your school." (Special thanks to Bob Stayton for allowing me to "play/laugh" again at Grant.) The food selection was inspired. Walk about with it or sit and talk.

You provided a perfect reunion. Not only did it have all its worth in its own right but it worked magic beyond, somehow comforting the spirit from the assault of September 11th. (For just one thing, I had not heard our national anthem sung on American soil until the choir sang. That had been important to me.)

Perhaps that's it. You guys with all your efforts created something that said to us all there.....your flag still does fly....on so many levels. Thank you.

No one has ever done so much work for me that brought me more pleasure and comfort.

Appreciatively,

Cindy Shoop Sisson

It was so wonderful to be there for our reunion. I truly appreciate all the work of the committee. It was healing at a time when we all needed it.

We were so lucky to [be] in high school when things were easy, no drugs, not much drinking, no war. We had fun and loved being in school and sharing with our friends. And it was special to acknowledge that this weekend.

I read the [memory] book on the plane and will contact people accordingly. Thanks for putting that together ....

Trudi [Schnitzer] Stone
