Memories

Peer Pressure
Mary Ann [Hamnett] Grimes

It seems we have just overcome our fears
Of looking and acting or being deemed weird
By others who seemed our mightier peers.
Often we worried, calling friends at night
To try to find out what's in, what's out...to get it just right.
The thought of being different filled us with fright.

However, now we've come such a long way.
We make our own choices concerning our days,
Only to have ads fill us with new dreads...
As they remind us of the hair falling from our heads,
Or that memory lapses are "senior moments" instead.
And...that we should want to do more than just sleep in our beds!

So as we gather for our 40 year "do",
We have come to share delights and photos, too,
Of things we've done or are going to do...
But, first tell us true...'cause you didn't want to guess...
Did you call each other to find out just how to dress?
